'The phantom of the place where the absence of the physical [art community] is at the same time a repercussion for another invisible presence [spirit].' This is a photographic tribute to an art community comprising of any sincere individuals who ha contributed and participated in the 522 days at Oil Street - the transient 'Artists Village' located in North Point, Hong Kong. Formerly a government warehouse, Oil Street was rented to artists in 1998 on a short-term lease and an extremely low rental. Oil Street has instantly turned into 'a village' with over 30 gallery space an studios with fervent artists. The once-Oil Street phenomenon has made an excellent imprint in the cultural development of Hong Kong. This visual work of art is an emotion act of documentation by 'another mountain man' right before the official closure of 'Oil Street'. This book has won the Gold Award (Book Category) in Hong Kong Designers Association Design 2002 Show. About the Creator
