In their fifth adventure Tik and Tok are drawn by a beautiful song into a
dreadful city of rusting machines, filthy smoke and rats, where the children
do nothing but stare at screens all day. Chased by Pinchbrat, Tik takes
refuge in the underground drains and sets off to find out who runs the
place and What It All Means. Tok has his own troubles, falling foul of
Sir William Warp.
Will our heroes survive the deadly call of the song? Will the children1s
enchantment be broken? Will the questions never stop?
Sirens expands the folk tale The Pied Piper of Hamelin and concerns power
and the manipulation of children, through computers, surveillance, branding
and consumerism. It draws on several famous works of literature and is at
once an adventure story for children and a satire for adults.
