CHANG, Gary

 

Born in 1962 in Hong Kong, Gary Chang graduated from the Department of Architecture, University of Hong Kong in 1987 and founded EDGE in 1994. Since 1995, Gary has been teaching as an Associate Professor in the Department of Architecture of HKU and a lecturer in SPACE HKU respectively. He has also lectured worldwide including the Technische Universiteit, Delft in 1997; Royal College of Art, London in 1999; Milan Polytechnic in 2002 and as panel speaker in various academic conferences on architecture around the world.

 

Gary held his first solo exhibition at Hong Kong Arts Centre in 2000. He was among the first group of representatives from Hong Kong to be invited to participate in the International Biennial Exhibition of Architecture, Venice in 2000 and again in 2002. 

Gary has won many awards for his architectural and interior design both locally and internationally, including the Hong Kong Young Architect Hsin Chong K.N. Godfrey Yeh Education Fund Award 1996; the recipient of The Dedalo-Minosse International Prize 2002 (For Architect Under 40), Vicenza, Italy; 'Blanch Gallardo Award' - Asia Pacific Interior Design Awards 2002 and 'High Commendation' - ar+d Award 2000 & 2003, London and Copahagen. 

He was included in the Taschen Book "40 Architects Under 40" and representative projects include the Gifu Kitagata Housing Phase II, Japan, the "Suitcase House" at "Commune by the Great Wall", Beijing and Kung-Fu Teaset for Tea & Coffee Towers 2003, Alessi.
