Works of Rosanna Li Wei Han & Eva Yuen

In 2003, the Hong Kong Heritage Museum invited sculptors Rosanna Li Wei Han and Eva Yuen to create new works for ‘Woman’, Wanted, an exhibition that questioned what a ‘woman’ is, after all. In Man Wanted: Work Within the Words, Li uses wordplay and voluminous figurines to interpret the modern woman. By breaking down Chinese characters that contain the ‘woman’ radical into literal readings, she assembles witty scenes: a woman (女) with a horse (馬) for the character ‘mother’ (媽); a dead (亡) woman (女) for ‘absurdity’ (妄). In Fourth Dimension, Yuen uses paper-and-bamboo busts of women to highlight their changing hairstyles across different dynasties. Dramatic and faceless, their heads elucidate both the delicate sensibilities and strength of will displayed by and on women throughout history.

This book contains a dialogue between the two artists, images of their original works, and critical essays by Anthea Fan, Audrey Wan, Eva man, Julie C L Chiu, Kan Tai-keung, and May Fung.
